Stop the machine and observe from the front or accessible side. Record whether the issue appeared during fill, agitation, drain, or while idle.
Observe the laundry area only from dry, stable flooring. Record whether water appears when the machine fills with hot water, fills with cold water, agitates, drains, spins, or sits unused. Look at visible hose connections, wall box, valves, standpipe, floor, and adjacent room edges without moving the machine. A supply connector may leak under pressure even while the washer is off, while an overfilled standpipe may show only during pump discharge. Internal tub, pump, and door leaks belong to the appliance side. Do not run another cycle when water is spreading or approaching the outlet. Save the model, cycle selected, load condition, and any error message. This timeline helps route the call without asking the homeowner to reach behind a powered, heavy appliance.

Hot and cold valves, supply hoses, a drain hose, standpipe, outlet, and wall finish often share a small recessed box. Corrosion or mineral residue may make a valve difficult to operate, but forcing it during a leak can cause a larger failure. Tell the provider whether the valves are labeled, accessible, and previously used successfully. If hoses are to be replaced, discuss length, routing, bend radius, support, manufacturer instructions, and whether the valves and connection threads are serviceable. For a drain overflow, ask how standpipe height, hose insertion, branch drainage, and machine discharge will be evaluated. The appliance itself should not be blamed for a wall connection problem, and the plumbing should not be altered to mask an appliance pump issue without evidence.
In an upper-floor laundry room, identify the occupied space below and any pan or floor drain without assuming either can contain a hose failure. Check the floor and nearby room after the cycle, not only while water moves. Ask which connectors or valves were changed and whether the drain branch or appliance remains an open question. If the machine cannot be safely run during the visit, record who will perform and observe the later test. Wet flooring, baseboard, or wall material may need separate drying and restoration even after every plumbing connection remains dry.
